We have focused on how tech companies have such power when it comes to Recruitment. One is obviously the brand, but the other significant aspect is how well they focus on Recruitment. Large tech companies are targeting recruiters across companies and building a robust “Recruitment Infrastructure” Enterprise companies, compared to tech companies that have fallen behind in this aspect. Hiring a sufficient number of Recruiters and providing them the optimal Digital Infrastructure is essential for companies to win the Global Talent War.
Let us look at how Facebook is organized when it comes to Recruitment; it is organized in the following manner
- Technology/Engineering jobs
- AI/Machine Learning jobs
- Product Management jobs
- Emerging Talent/University Talent
- Talent X, which handles all Executive Recruitment
- Product Leaders Jobs that are super-specialized by Products (they have another division handling this)
- David Samuelson is responsible for all Android and iOS industry hiring at Facebook while leading all NORAM Android and iOS industry recruiting teams
- Chris Miller manages multiple teams of sourcers, and recruiters based across EMEA to support hiring across Engineering, Network, TPM, Hardware, Data Science, and Product
- Molly D. and Bryan Kaye manage the team of sourcers that support various teams and pipelines across the Specialized Technology (SpecTech) businesses at Facebook
- Ellen Waller hires fully remote engineers across the US and Canada
- Facebook G&A function includes Finance, HR, R4R, Global Affairs and Policy, Legal, Physical Security, Facilities, and Culinary teams; Dana Aspillera heads the G&A Recruiting team
- Dana Aspillera is the leader of the G&A Recruiting team, inclusive of Executive Recruiting for the Business teams. Core functions for which professionals are hired: HR, Recruiting, Communications, Policy, Legal, Finance, Admin, Physical Security, Facilities, and Culinary Client teams
- R4R is a recruiting team that focuses on recruiting Talent Acquisition (Recruitment) professionals for Facebook
- Several additional nuances exist in Facebook. Such a structure positions them in a Growth Mindset. Facebook also has specialized Product Leaders hiring team. Ryan Sapper leads UX Research recruiting for Facebook App, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and FRL (AR/VR)
In this age of AI and Automation, we often look at Automating infrastructure like Recruitment. Although machines can now do far more than in the past, this does not mean they can do everything. A 2014 Pew Research Center survey found that many experts believed that certain uniquely human characteristics such as empathy, judgment, and critical thinking would never be automated. This is true even 6 years post this study. A new field of AI called AGI is evolving in this direction – but is very slow.
