This week in Aerospace & Defense: Sector accelerates into electrifying jets and doubles down on research into biofuels to decarbonize aviation

Latest Industry Insights from Draup Braindesk

The aerospace industry is catching on to the green energy trend with research into green aircraft, hybrid propulsion, and biofuels. They are designing and manufacturing fuel-efficient aircraft due to high fuel cost being one of the major pain points.

  • Honeywell is developing a power source for hybrid electric aircraft that can operate high-power electric motors or charge batteries to satisfy missions from heavy-lift cargo drones to air taxis or commuter aircraft.
  • SKY Perfect JSAT, the primary satellite operator in Japan, partnered with Airbus to build Superbird-9, a digital in-orbit reconfigurable telecommunications satellite based on Airbus’ standardized OneSat product line.
  • VisionSafe partnered with Embraer to offer a new safety system for Praetor business jets. EVAS (Emergency Vision Assurance System), available as an STC (Supplement Type Certificate) on Embraer’s flagship Praetor aircraft, is a milestone for business aviation.
  • JetBlue expands the use of sustainable aviation fuel as part of its strategy to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
