E-Mobility, Connected Cars & Fuel Cell advancements spur deal-making as automotive accelerates its shift to green technologies
Volvo will acquire a 50% stake in Daimler Truck Fuel Cell GmbH for more than USD 698 Mn. This move will help them develop, produce, and commercialize hydrogen fuel cell systems for heavy-duty trucks and other applications.

Toyota Motor will invest USD 500 Mn into the mobile carrier KDDI. Toyota and KDDI will conduct research and development focused on telecommunication platforms to promote the connected cars ecosystem.

Daimler Trucks and Torc Robotics partner with Luminar to develop autonomous trucks. The teams will work closely together to enhance lidar sensing, perception, and system-level performance for Daimler trucks moving at highway speeds.

Mahindra and Mahindra have announced that it will set-up a new electric vehicle technology and R&D center near the Bengaluru airport. The company has earmarked an investment of USD 68 Mn for this center.

Panasonic Corp is developing a new battery cell for Tesla Inc based on their new cell format. Tesla’s new battery cell can store more energy and is key to cutting battery costs in half and ramping up battery production nearly 100-fold by 2030.

Electric vehicle startup Fisker surges 13% in NYSE debut. Fisker is among a growing group of speculative electric vehicle startups going public through deals with SPACs, which have become a popular way of raising money on Wall Street.
